Minutes and Pictures from February Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Rachel Wessels at 6:30.

Visitors included Patricia Wilson and Sandra Hudson from Sew Happy Quilt Guild. Gerry Charleston’s sisters, Laurie Campbell and Faye McKissik were in attendance as were Brenda Wiard and Betty Stevenson as guests of Jane McBride.

Members celebrating February birthdays were Barbara Bockario, Linda Wincovich, Anne Dickerson, Kathy Faucette, Phyllis Murphy, Barbara Bond and Stevie Scaramelli.

Treasurer’s report -

Karen reported that there is $1215.58 in the treasury following collection of some dues and $75 paid out to First Presbyterian Church for use of their facilities for the April meeting.

Old Business -

There are many raffle tickets left to sell for the Christmas Quilt. The raffle will take place April 30th.

A motion was passed to create a credit of $100 at Supply Line for the Senior Center to purchase plastic serving pieces. Faith Smith agreed to take care of this.

Quiltable winners from January were Belinda Leach and Donna Compton. Each received a fat quarter bundle.

New Business -

Lake Gaston Piecemakers will be having their annual quilt show at R. T. Arnold Public Library in South Hill, VA through the month of March.

Marilyn Doheny will be presenting a trunk show at our April meeting. Refreshments and set up committee are Thearica Burroughs, Karen Haney and Georgia Darnell.

A sign up sheet was passed around for Anita’s Arrowhead which will be taught by Nikki Moshier from Sew Happy Quilt Guild at a workshop on March 24th. Cost of the workshop is $10 which will be refunded upon attendance at the workshop.

November’s meeting will be a fashion show of quilted garments. A sign up sheet was passed.

First and last quilts were presented by Donna Wesseman with a baby quilt and Valentine quilt as her first quilts. Her last quilt was an adaptation of Hollow Cube.

Hassie Boddy shared her first quilt, Trip Around the World, created in 1986. Her last quilt was a Whig Rose applique.

Lynn Currin and Donna Compton will share first and last quilts in March.

Sandy King presented a program on squaring a quilt. Debbie Powell shared her method of finishing the binding of a quilt.

Patricia Wilson from Sew Happy Quilt Guild presented a hands on program demonstrating how to make prairie points. Her method showed us how to make a continuous string of prairie points by cutting and folding a strip of fabric.

Show and tell included Belinda Alston’s “No More Strippin’ for Me!”, Barbara Bond’s circle quilt in red, black and white, Kaye Pegram’s purple and white wedding sampler, Hassie Boddy’s wool penny rug, Rachel Wessells’ placemat, and Belinda Leach’s t-shirt yarn rug. Jane McBride shared a Christmas tree skirt she completed using machine quilting as the 2011 challenge. Thearica Burroughs showed the completed holiday quilt that will be raffled for the Oxford Senior Center.

Following adjournment of the meeting, those participating in the 2012 Quilt in a Box challenge gathered to exchange boxes.

Programs for the March meeting will include texturing fabric by Debbie Powell, flange with Kaye Pegram and marking quilts with paper templates by Lynn Currin.
